Diary Entry 4
March, 1945
Morning
I completely lost my plantation now and all of us, French people are pushed out of our plantations. A few days ago, a Japanese troop led by some officer marched in armed with their newly developed weapons and shot all of the workers on my plantation. Other French people in Vietnam also lost their territory and were pushed out of their plantations. The Japanese forces were led by a officer. He was very small and had a small mustache. He was well dressed in his western-looking uniform. He was shouting out to all of the soldiers in his army and he killed all of my people in ten minutes.. The Japanese army was strong and powerful. I feel miserable.. I lost my plantation, my husband, my workers, my house. I lost everything.. I don’t know where I belong anymore. It might have been better if they killed me too.. I don't know why I should live anymore..
Night
I have thought about what I should do all day.. This morning I was planning to go back to France but I received a letter from my mother back in France. She told me that things are not going well in Europe too.. Millions of Europeans are dying and our family is suffering too. Luckily, none of our family members in France are dead but they are living under horror everyday. I still didn't tell my parents about my husband's death.. I did not want to make my mother worried.. They are already living under so much suffering and pain.. All of us are suffering. Everyone is miserable..
However, I also received a letter from the French government. They finally responded to my letter and they told me that the French forces will not back up and they will recapture the lost territories. They promised me that they would recapture my plantation and give it back to me. If this happens, I can save my family back in France. I still have hope.. I am not going to back off. I will stay strong and support our government to recover their power in Vietnam.
